Family and CommunityResearch establishes, unequivocally, that parent engagement has a positive impact on students’ academic achievement, behavior in school, and attitudes about school work. As the first teachers of their children, parents can be a vital resource to support teaching and learning.

Just as parent involvement is important, so are relationships with the broader school community. Creating an environment that values two-way communication with families and stakeholders promotes and supports student success.

Building a sense of community within the classroom has numerous benefits. This course provides strategies for whole class community-building activities, as well as cooperative learning in small groups.
