challenge the courseWelcome to the #T.E.A.C.H. Phase I Program Challenge, for individuals who wish to challenge the courses required in phase one of this program. The challenge process involves assessing your prior learning and abilities through an evaluation process to obtain credit for these courses in the #T.E.A.C.H. program. This challenge is best suited to a teacher who has at least one full year of classroom teaching experience and has done significant self-study or learning that closely matches the learning outcomes expected in the domains listed in this evaluation process, including:

  • Classroom environment, including the steps necessary to creating a positive and productive classroom culture.
  • Childhood development, including the key aspects of psychology related to instruction and childhood development.
  • Family and community engagement.
  • Effective lesson planning.
  • Student recognition.

In this challenge process, you will be asked to complete a series of assignments. There will be one in each domain, each consisting of two parts: a series of related issues you will be asked to address, and a 500–750-word response to a question or scenario regarding core practices. The responses will be reviewed by an Instructional Coach, and if you receive a passing score for your Phase I courses, you will be promoted to the path for fulfilling the requirements for your additional endorsement as you complete the Phase II coursework.

Course challenges are provided to meet the diverse needs of existing teachers as adult learners, acknowledging the levels of your prior knowledge, continuous learning, and experience.
