Welcome to Structured English Immersion. This course has been approved by the Arizona State Department of Education for K-12 pre-service and in-service teachers. It covers a comprehensive range of topics related to teaching English Language Learners (ELLs).

The increasing presence of English language learners (ELLs) in Arizona schools and elsewhere in the nation has made more apparent the need for quality instruction for these students. National and state education policy developments (e.g., the federal Every Student Succeeds Act legislation, Flores v. Arizona, and Proposition 203) also have focused attention on a program known as “Structured English Immersion” (SEI). Our SEI course is designed for pre-service and practicing teachers who serve English learners in their classrooms.

This course requires an estimated 45 hours of study time to complete all assignments.

You will need to purchase the following text to complete this course:

Fairbairn, S. & Jones-Vo, S. (2015). Differentiating instruction and assessment for English language learners: A guide for K-12 teachers. (2nd ed.). Baltimore, MD: Brookes Publishing.

This course is supported by our SEI program partners. You will progress through the course as usual and will send your certificate of completion to your Instructional Coach. Your Instructional Coach will work directly with our program partners to confirm your score and feedback for the course.
