This course focuses on the stages of literacy development, reading and writing processes, a comprehensive look at research-based literacy instruction, and the “Science of Reading” in the elementary classroom.
After completing this course, the learner will be able to do the following:
- Explain the principles of effective and balanced literacy instruction.
- Demonstrate the understanding of the Science of Reading and the Five Pillars.
- Summarize the stages of literacy development.
- Utilize instructional strategies to teach reading and writing in the elementary grades.
- Summarize effective decoding, vocabulary, and comprehension instruction.
