Welcome to Student Career Planning for the 21st Century and Beyond.

As your students work on completing their core and elective courses, they also need to prepare for life after high school. This is when college and career readiness become an important next step.

Actress Anne Hathaway stated, “College is such a unique time, because you’re learning a little bit how to be an adult. You’re learning how to take care of yourself without parental influence, and you’re exposed to so many great minds. I feel like I didn’t even know how to think until I got to college” (Waddle, 2021).

An effective teacher prepares each student for entry into either college or a career path upon their graduation from high school. Then they, too, can experience what Hathaway described—except you can equip each student with the critical thinking skills they will need in college and in their career.

Preparation, therefore, is the key focus of this course. You will examine the relationship between effective educational preparation and graduation rates, proficiency test outcomes, and under-prepared graduates. You will also explore strategies for assisting students with college and career readiness through a variety of processes involving both the school and the community.

This course requires 21 hours of study time to complete all assignments and the reflection questions. There are seven written assignments including the reflection questions at the end of the course.
